Our mission also helps those who struggle to make a living, especially single mothers who must feed, house and raise their children. To prepare women for the workforce, the mission operates the Academia Corte y Confeccion "Dorcas," an Academy of Style and Dressmaking on the mission centre campus in Chinandega.
Santos Alver Soriano teaches students basic sewing techniques and design and pattern preparation. For graduation, students design and sew a complete outfit.
Seven students graduated from the program in 2008–2009. It was the first class held since moving the school from downtown Chinandega to the Mission Centre. The school plans for 30 students in the coming years. This program, as with other social ministry programs, helps us reach us reach out to local communities.
We thank the Lutheran Women's Missionary League–Canada (LWMLC) for its support.
