PROJECT PROPOSAL
Vacation Bible School

Project Description

Vacation Bible Schools are one of the more popular short term programs conducted for children in the various communities where Iglesia Luterana Sinodo de Nicaragua has congregations or missions. While most VBS programs are conducted during the months of January and February (and have been generously underwritten by Concordia Lutheran Mission Society), some churches and missions have begun holding similar events at other times of the year. These programs have benefited from having a Mission Team work with the local pastor and deaconesses.

A visiting Mission Team will work with the local pastor and deaconesses by:

  1. Assisting in teaching of the Bible Story and lesson (drama, storytelling, etc.)
  2. Preparing and leading crafts and projects with the children
  3. Providing daily snacks for the children
  4. Preparing and leading games and other outdoor activities
Project Costs

In addition to the individual volunteer costs (air travel, lodging, and meals) and team expenses relating to in-country transportation and so forth, the following costs are associated with running a VBS:

  1. Crafts and Projects - determined by the mission team (some materials can be purchased locally; others brought with the team)
  2. Daily Snacks - $1.00 /day /child (average number per VBS - 150 children)
  3. We recommend that teams bring game equipment with them, as it difficult to obtain in Nicaragua.
  4. Bible Lesson: Teams have chosen to purchase Concordia VBS materials in Spanish and bring the materials with them. Children are grateful to bring the materials home with them afterwards.
  5. Local transportation and translation work. Each team member contributes $20 to the teams' coordinator fund. Local van transportation is $85/day plus lunch for the driver.

For additional information please contact the Project Coordinator. In addition to providing additional detailed information, he will work with the Synod in identifying a specific congregation or congregations where the Team can serve.
