'With Great Boldness'
The Lessons

Psalm 27:1-9 Our confidence to serve comes from Him who is “my light and my salvation.” I need not be afraid to take on responsibilities because “the Lord is the stronghold of my life.”

Isaiah 9:1-4 or Amos 3:1-8 Isaiah speaks of those walking in darkness having seen a great light. The Light of Christ has dispelled the darkness of our lives and empowered us to serve. Amos declares that God “does nothing without revealing his plans to his servants...” We can have confidence that he will also guide us as we lead His people.

1 Corinthians 1:10-17 Leading a congregation is not without its difficulties. Sometimes, like Corinth, the church is troubled by factions. Wise leaders, like Paul, will remind the people that Christ is not divided, but always wants to unite His church under the power of the cross.

Matthew 4:12-23 Jesus called disciples to follow Him and become “fishers of men”. We continue to need individuals (men and women, professional and lay) who will hear and respond to the Lord’s invitation to join the great work of spreading the Gospel.
The Collect

O Lord God Almighty, because you have always supplied your servants with the several gifts which come from your Holy Spirit alone, leave also us not destitute of your manifold gifts nor of grace to use them always to your honour and glory and the good of others; through Jesus Christ, your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.
